City of Gainesville Mattress Pickup vs. Full-Service Removal
The City lists mattresses, box springs and bed frames as accepted bulk items for homes served by its Residential Curbside Service Program. Eligible customers do not need an appointment, and there is no additional charge for bulk collection.
- Set items curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled garbage collection day. Collection may occur through noon the following day.
- Place items within four feet of the curb or traveled road edge, with at least four feet between bulk items and your garbage cart.
- Eligibility depends on your collection service. Apartment residents should check their property's arrangements; a Gainesville address alone does not establish eligibility.
Check the City's current bulk-item collection rules and collection day before setting anything out. Collection days are changing for many households on October 5, 2026.
City collection can be a good option if you qualify and can follow its requirements. Full-service removal may fit better when the mattress is still inside, you cannot safely move it, several bulky items need to go, or you are clearing an apartment or house and want the lifting, loading and hauling handled.
