HOGTOWNHAULING & JUNK REMOVALDISPOSAL & DONATION GUIDE
Start with what can be used again. Then choose a recycling or disposal route for the rest. This guide separates donation options, City curbside services and County drop-off facilities so you can plan before loading your vehicle.
Information checked October 1, 2026. Confirm acceptance and hours before visiting.
Choose the item below, then check the linked requirements. Donation acceptance depends on condition, space and the organization's current needs.
Offer usable pieces to Reuse Planet first. For worn-out furniture, eligible City curbside customers can use bulk collection. Check County facilities before self-hauling.
The Humane Society thrift store does not accept mattresses or box springs. The City lists both for eligible bulk collection. Confirm the destination before loading one for drop-off.
Ask a reuse organization about a working appliance before transporting it. Otherwise check City appointment collection or Leveda Brown. Rural centers cannot take refrigerators or air conditioners.
Ask Reuse Planet about reusable electronics. For recycling, use County drop-off or eligible City appointment collection; small devices need drop-off.
Clean, usable clothing and household items may fit Reuse Planet or the Humane Society thrift store. Confirm condition and capacity first.
Offer reusable doors, hardware and other materials to Renovator Reuse. Construction and demolition debris is not accepted at Leveda Brown or the rural centers.
Keep these separate from ordinary junk. Use County hazardous-waste guidance to confirm your material and destination. Rural centers accept only specified items and quantities.
Separate usable items and recyclables first. Rural centers suit qualifying residential loads within their limits; the transfer station is another option. Loose or bagged trash is not City bulk collection.
Send a photo or describe the item before making a trip. Check the organization's restricted-item list and current capacity, especially for large pieces. Pickup is not automatically free or available on your preferred date.
Reuse Planet's donation page lists furniture, clothing, shoes, household goods, framed art and electronics. It also flags items it cannot currently accept. Its pickup service may request or require a monetary contribution based on the job.
Renovator Reuse's donation guidelines cover building materials such as doors, windows, tools, hardware, plumbing, roofing and flooring. This location accepts building materials only. Confirm the specific material before bringing it.
For art supplies, fabric, office or school supplies and similar creative materials, check The Repurpose Project's item-donation guide. Its donation hours differ from the other reuse stores.
Its thrift-store donation page lists clean, gently used clothing, books, household goods, pet supplies and furniture in good working condition. Exclusions include mattresses, box springs, printers, paint and chemicals. Donation drop-off hours differ from shopping hours and may close early.
These services apply to homes enrolled in the City's Residential Curbside Service Program. A Gainesville mailing address alone does not establish eligibility. Apartment residents should check their property's collection arrangements.
City bulk collection needs no appointment and has no additional charge for eligible customers. Put accepted items curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Household garbage, hazardous waste and contractor-generated debris do not belong in this pickup.
Appliance collection requires an appointment, with no additional charge for eligible homes. Request it by noon the day before your collection day. Appliances must be curbside; the City does not retrieve them from garages or inside the home. Check its preparation and accepted-item list.
Large-electronics collection is by appointment for eligible homes, limited to 10 items. Request it by 10 a.m. the day before collection. Small devices need drop-off; broken-screen electronics are excluded from this curbside service. Keep electronics separate from bulky items.
Collection days are changing for many households on October 5, 2026. Check your address through the City's linked service pages rather than relying on an old schedule.
Five staffed centers serve residential loads. Commercially generated waste is prohibited. The daily limit is one visit to one center and one level truck bed of accepted material.
Standard hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Alachua/High Springs also lists Wednesday and Thursday, 12:30–5:30 p.m. Check holiday closures and the County's current center rules.
Washers, dryers and stoves are listed for metal recycling. Refrigerators, air conditioners, water coolers and dehumidifiers must go elsewhere. Paint and waste oil have a five-gallon daily limit. Out-of-county residents should ask about a use permit.
5115 NE 63rd Avenue, Gainesville
The County lists household garbage, recyclables, appliances and scrap metal, tires and vegetative debris. Fees depend on the material; refrigerant-containing appliances have a separate fee. Sort materials and secure your load.
Construction and demolition debris is not accepted here or at rural centers. Do not assume a renovation load can go with household trash. For usable materials, try Renovator Reuse; for the rest, confirm a suitable disposal facility before hauling.
Check Leveda Brown's accepted materials, fees and hours. Ask about your specific load if it contains mixed materials.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center: 5125 NE 63rd Avenue, Gainesville
This is a different address from the transfer station. Consult the County's hazardous-waste collection information for your item. Business hazardous waste follows separate eligibility and fee rules; residential guidance should not be applied to a business load.
The City confirms electronics recycling drop-off at this center and the five rural centers is available without a fee for Gainesville and Alachua County residents. Confirm acceptance of damaged devices before transport. Hogtown does not take hazardous materials.
Gamers Excape advertises a Gainesville rage room. We could not verify a current donation policy. Contact the location to ask whether it wants plates, glassware or ceramics before bringing anything.
Do not assume old printers or broken electronics are safe or accepted smashable items. Use the electronics recycling options above unless the location confirms the specific item.
For something not listed here, search the City's Zero Waste Wizard for donation, repair, reuse, recycling and disposal options. Verify the listing with the receiving organization.
Self-hauling or municipal collection can be a good fit when you can safely move the items and meet the destination's rules. Paid removal may help when items are inside, too heavy to lift, mixed together, or you lack a suitable vehicle.
